I originally trained as an Art Teacher but over the years I have gained acclaim as a landscape oil and pastel painter. I live in a 15th century house in a Welsh valley south west of Oswestry. I get my inspiration both from the local countryside and history of the area where I live, just a mile from the motte and bailey where Owain Glyndwr, the Welsh Prince, had his settlement in the 14th century, which I can see from my studio.
As well as producing oil paintings I have a flat bed printing press in my studio where I produce etching and collagraph prints. I am fascinated by the embossing which can be produced by collagraphic plates and I often use pastel or ink on the textured paper to produce unique effects.
When I moved from The Vale of Clwyd in North Wales to live near Oswestry in 2003 I joined the Borderlands Visual Arts, a group of professional artists, and I have exhibited with them in The Open Studio events since then. I have also held solo exhibitions in Mold at Clwyd Theatre Cymru, The Grosvenor Museum Chester, Weston Park and The Oswestry Heritage Centre. I held a solo exhibition of my work at The Bear Steps Gallery, Shrewsbury last September which lasted for two weeks. It all looked interesting in the wonderful old medieval building where the gallery is sited in the center of the town.
I carry a sketch book with me on my journeys and the quick drawings that I produce act as a visual diary of my trips away. Examples of my sketches can be viewed on the sketch book section of this website.
